对腐蚀介质进行处理是防止腐蚀很常用的途径，它又可分为：去掉介质中的有害成分；在水中加入能减慢腐蚀的缓蚀剂水中溶解的杂质，易使金属腐蚀的种类很多，尤其是溶解氧的存在，腐蚀特别严重因此，给水除氧成为防止锅炉、换热器及管道腐蚀的首要任务。
热水锅炉流过的水量很大，直供系统这些水还要流过热力管道和散热器，其防止水侧腐蚀问题不仅涉及热水锅炉，还涉及到整个热水供热系统(有些热水锅炉房都没有蒸汽源)总之，热水锅炉的除氧问题有其特殊性，往往比蒸汽锅炉除氧存在的问题更多。
